Storied: The Roosevelt Chapter was a First Friday evening celebrating the people, homes and stories that shaped Roosevelt. Beginning at the six Residences on 2nd homes, neighbors picked up a Storied library card and explored historic photographs, personal stories and work from local artists.
Nancy and the What’s Your Story Mobile Bookstore were there, along with Boho Farm + Home, the DeMund House and live painting. Every story from the night is still below.
Eight doors on one block, and the stories that happened right here. Floor plans are around if you’re curious, but the stories are the point.
We could have called them Units 1 through 6.
Instead, each residence is named for a kind of work: the stewards, photographers, musicians, painters, sculptors and writers who shaped the Roosevelt arts district, most of them long before anyone built here.
The homes are new. The stories are not.
The names belong to all of those people. At each door we also recognize one person whose work stands for the rest, and tell you why.
Two of the doors aren’t new homes at all. One is older than all of them: the 1907 DeMund House. The other is an urban farm and event space.
Every door has two stories: the person, and the place.
A note on the names: the artists and arts supporters recognized here are not affiliated with Residences on 2nd or its development in any way, and nothing here is an endorsement from them. We wanted to honor and platform the artists who platformed this neighborhood.

If you live in Roosevelt, you already know Bee. She paints in an open window above the street, and on October 2 she painted live. Born and raised downtown, she’s an oil painter whose portraits have shown in Phoenix galleries, and her paint-and-sip studio, Painteria, opens October 16.
